What’s better than a great smelling apartment or home? I feel like we especially want our homes to smell great after we’ve cleaned or after coming home from a long day at work. Here are 6 amazingly easy ways that you can maintain a fresh-smelling home.
cotton ball bombs
This is something that I discovered recently, I don’t think I would have thought of it on my own but it’s incredibly simple. Just get a cotton ball and soak it in your favorite scents and hide them in your home. The scent will remain in the cotton ball for a while and keep your apartment smelling fresh. You can use essential oils or I’ve seen some people use vanilla. You can put it in a bowl in your fridge or hide it in your trash can or on a piece of foil below the couch. Use your imagination, you can hide these great smelling cotton balls anywhere and no one will know!
light candles
Burning candles are a very classic way to keep your home smelling great but we can’t leave it out because it works so well. Light your favorite candle and experiment with scents to see what you like best. I typically have at least one candle in each room and after outing the flame I sometimes leave the cover off so that the scent can linger.
essential oil diffuser
Diffusers are very simple to use, just fill them with water and add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. If you don’t know where to start you can try the popular scents: vanilla, lemon or lavender. Eventually, you’ll figure out what you like and what you don’t. I’d also recommend that you only start with a few drops, you can increase the amount you add if you like a stronger scent, but I know a lot of us prefer milder scents.
boil potpourri
Simmering Potpourri is one of my favorite ways to get my apartment smelling amazing. When some of us think of Potpourri we think of the dried version that our moms and grandmas had, but this is so much better than that. There are many Potpourri recipes out there but my favorite is simmering apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cloves and lemons in water. It gives the most amazing smell!
You can also make it with what’s in your house, just use fruits and herbs with aromas that you love. You can keep it going on the stove but be sure to check on it occasionally to ensure that all the water hasn’t dried out.
open your windows
Opening your windows sounds so easy and too good to be true. But seriously! Opening your windows and doors [if you can] brings fresh air into your home which is sometimes all we need for any foul odors to leave. And if you’re like me and love fresh air you’ll love this tip too.
bake a banana breAD
I wouldn’t say this is one of the traditional ways to make your home smell amazing, but it does make your home smell AMAZING! I love banana bread and I love the smell of it baking just as much. The smell of the vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon is intensified by a 1000 once this loaf pan hits the oven.
You can pop it in just before your guests come over, and they’ll be sure to love the bread as well because it’s nothing less than amazing.
These are so simple that you should always have a great smelling home.
