Your rental apartment/home will be sure to have rules about what you can’t do to the space, and more often than not, that means you can’t make any changes that may result in damage to the landlord’s property. But there are still creative ways in which you can upgrade your apartment while keeping your deposit.
cOMMAND STRIPS and hooks
In a rental space Command Strips and Hooks will be one of your best friends. You can use them to mount tons of different items as long as they aren’t too heavy. They have a strong adhesive that make your items stay up while not damaging your walls. It’s usually indicated on the package the amount of weight they can manage. I use them for hanging wall art, bags, clipboards, keys and so many other items. They even have Command Broom and Mop Holders!
DOUBLE SIDED TAPE
Your next best friend is surely double-sided tape/mount tape. It’s perfect for mounting lightweight items, just make sure you get the one that says ‘removable’ as there is a ‘permanent’ option.
ADHESIVE PAPER PEEL & STICK
This one is so good it’s almost magic! These Paper Peel & Stick Rolls come in a variety of colors and patterns. You can easily revamp your apartment countertops, walls, or desk with them. They can make such a difference to old or not so pretty furniture in your apartment. You can go from old to modern in no time. It may take a little while for you to get the hang of installing it, but once you do you’ll love it.
I recommend that you try and order just a little more than you think you’ll need as you’ll have room for making errors and they’re printed in batches.
ADHESIVE TILE BACKSPLASH
Those of us who love to watch HGTV can truly appreciate beautiful backsplash. Unfortunately our kitchen may not come beautifully decorated with gorgeous backsplash. But there’s hope! You can purchase adhesive backsplash in a variety of colors and install them yourself. No need for grout or tiles cutters or any of the complicated stuff.
Just note that you should be careful when removing them as they may remove patches of paint. I’d say this one you should install at your own risk but I think it’s so great that I had to include it.
ADHESIVE WALL HOOKS
You could say these a similar to Command Hooks, in fact I think the Command brand has hooks similar to these. What I love about this design though is that the metal hook is flexible so it will fall will gravity based on how you install them. So in the image above that’s how the hook would fall if mounted on a wall but you can also mount on the ceiling. This makes them great for installing string lights, fake vines and greenery, keys and so much more. The best part is that they are reusable, waterproof and oilproof!
These are great ways to safely upgrade your apartment but remember to take extra care when removing them. They’ll be worth it.
